haunted house

July 26, 2022

Seasons after “‘…too much imagination’,” I’m listing what was deleted from online:
  • 1: a 2011 posting the pretends that Jennifer and I are talking in bed about her not-yet-written book on Hölderlin and Heidegger.
  • 2: a long 2012 posting which quotes much of a letter sent to Jennifer after I read central portions of her Exotic Spaces in German Modernism. Her pro forma reply showed no interest in discussing anything, but recommended that I read her youthful book of poems.
  • 3: a long posting that same day about posting my letter.
  • 4: a long 2020 posting that quotes most of an email sent to Jennifer titled “on ‘efforts to think newly’.” She didn’t respond.
  • 5: a short Halloween posting that confesses my fabulating of her as textual musement, which implicitly allegorizes any reader’s condition of construing the author of the text between “us” as specific or specifiable identity, and not merely mirroring the reader (e.g., bad-faith reading that displaces one’s own concealed issues). But I quickly deleted that posting because I was afraid that its link to the last posting listed here (which preceded my Halloween note) would hurt her feelings.
  • 6: a discussion of a central point of her critique of Heidegger in her 2004 Hölderlin book, after I rejected her claim in a recent book, via email, that Heidegger supported Nazism, which has no basis. She retorted by email that her claim is “obvious.” So, I titled my discussion “what’s obvious?”. I was very direct, particularly because her retort was not open to discussion, due to being so busy (which I genuinely didn’t doubt).
You can easily see why I might have felt I should rid myself of
my musement.

If you want to see the postings, I’ll be happy to restore them, then link from here; and send you a note.

Now I’ve changed my tune. I hope I don’t regret it: I’ve restored all of the postings above; numbered them above (not done July 26), so you know that the above refers to below; and I’ve added a link at the bottom of each old posting back to here.
So, there. Now back to our story.
